Just wondering if anybody knows the conversion rate for a real foot for HO.
real life1ft = blank inches, centimeters, milimeters…whatever.

One real foot is 87 HO scale feet.
HO scale is 1 scale foot = 3.5 mm, that is a ratio of 1:87.1
If you look around you can find a dial caliper for under $30. That, $10 calculator and the 1:87.1 ratio is all you’ll need.

Thanks, I knew the 1/87 part but not the scale foot to 1ho foot. Thankyou, Ben
1 foot in real the real world = 87 feet in the HO world…I have found that using a steel scale ruler (walthers and most LHS carry them)…is the best way to measure…they convert O, HO, and N scale into real world measurements and have conversion chats on them for drill bit size, metric sizes, and stuff like that…it’s a good investment especially if you scratch build …Chuck
The conversion from HO to real life usually starts with, “Honey, can you take out the garbage now…” [:D]

One HO foot is 1/87th of a foot if you want to look at it another way.
One eight of an inch x 8 = 1 inch, There are 96 1/8th inches in a foot.
So an HO foot is just a hair bigger that an 1/8th of an inch. I agree it is much easier with an HO ruler or whatever scale you are dealing with, but I hope you got the info you needed.
Speak up if you still need info, sometimes we are cryptic, or answer in ways that assume you already know certain things.
I answered someone one day and they let me know that they were no beginner, so that’s one reason everyone is shy about too much info.

this should help:
This may also be of interest.
1 HO scale mile = 60.5 real feet
To find actual feet per mile of other scales, just divide 5280 by the scale ratio.
Example
HO — 5280 divided by 87 = 60.5 real ft.
on average for grades, my standard 3% grade…1 inch up every 3 feet, while doing planning.
