I’ve been doing some research for my next model railroad and have become enamored with the Monongahela Railway, especially the Osage and Fairmont WV areas. I think it might make a neat model railroad.
There are a few models being made for it including a couple Baldwin Diesels and a caboose. No brass that I have found, although it’s parents included the PRR, P&LE and the B&O. I have not found that anyone is modeling it yet. Anyone out there building models or have a layout for this railroad?
Different railroad: the Monon used the reporting marks CIL (Chicago, Indianapolis, & Louisville), while the Monongahela was a coal hauler in western Pennsylvania.
Its trackage included a section of street running in West Brownsville, which I visited a couple of years ago with friends.
Both NS…
Like Wayne, I’ve spent a lot of time railfanning the western Pennsylvania railroad scene. For such a relatively small geographical area the railroad activity and variety was spectacular.
This site has a wealth of photos on the Monongahela:
One of our members here, Jimmy Braun, models the Wheeling and Lake Erie plus a few other coal and steel haulers of the “Mon Valley” He belongs to a club in New Eagle, Pa. som of those members might model the Monongahels.
So that is what’s happening, made to reregister. I wondered where people go, then a new name comes back with the same type of questions/interest as the MIA person. Ha, it’s really the same person. Good to see you back. I think some get mad at the establishment and do not come back.
Hope to see some photos of Monongahela Model Railroading soon. Looks like a gritty Rail Road.
