Anyone modeling Bramwell West Virginia?

I have seen many pictures of this beautiful town from Google images and Flicker. It is on the N&W Bluestone division and it has some beautiful Victorian houses downtown and on top off the hills. Although I am committed to the B&O Shenandoah division; I would love to see any pictures of Bramwell.

russ_q4b,

I model the C&O in '49 in West Virginia, but not anywhere near Bramwell. But a search on the N&W Historical Society Website brings up pictures and documents about Bramwell.

Looks like an interesting town to learn more about and model.

P.S. Like the second part of your handle. Lusted over a Westside models brass Q4b mike when I was 15 years old, but could not afford it at the time on my paper route money. That mike almost got me into modeling the B&O! [:D]

Happy modeling.

Hey Joel, it looks like I did the opposite of what you did. In college I rode the Chessie Steam Special along the New River Valley. At that point I was hooked and was planning to model the C&O when I entered the workforce. However I moved to the DC area after graduation, and found myself hiking and biking on the C&O canal in B&O country. I bought some B&O books from the B&O museum and I was hooked on B&O from then on.

russ_q4b,

That must have been some kind of ride along the New behind steam! Never been to the region of W. Va I model, but I occassionally “look around” using Google Earth to get a feel of the area I’m trying to recreate in the basement.

Thanks for sharing your story. Funny how we get from there to here! I got hooked on the C&O after I assembled and detailed a Bowser 4-8-2 kit back post graduate school to resemble the J class. To get more info about this detailing project, I bought a C&O book and that was it–I was hooked big time.

I haven’t completely forgotten about the B&O, though… as the picture shows some stock runs on the NR sub.

In this shot B&O M-53 wagontop box car is leading cab 90817 going eastward (probably on Manifest No. 98), while the George is speeding opposite toward its’ western destinations.

When I painted this cab more than 15 years ago, was working with black and white photos so I missed the fact that all window shades on C&O cabs are black (black and red look the same in B&W pics! [:'(]). One of these days I’ll have to correct this…

You have to go the the New River Valley. It’s spectacular. Every year there is a fall excursion from Huntington the Hinton. Although its pulled by Amtrak Genesis, it’s still a great ride. Also Cass Scenic Railroad is not too far from Hinton.
