Check this out – a $10,000 engineer’s hat – and there are TWO bidders!
What shipper would insure this item for shipping?
I wouldn’t pay $10,000 for that cap if it had $9,999 cash in it.

Did you notice that the two bidders are the same guys? He probably bid, then bid again to up his proxy.
Can we have some proof that it is a cap from the 1900’s? It looks identical to the one at Hobbytown for $9.99.
Matt
That is one STUPID bidder!!!
I see by your outfit that you are a turnofthecenturylocomotiveengineer.
I see by your outfit that you are one, too
We see by our outfits that we are both turnofthecenturylocomotiveengineers
If you get an outfit you can be a turnofthecenturylocomotiveengineer, too!
Thanks to Tom and Dick.
Nobody is going to jump right out with an insane bid. I suspect that the bidder and the seller are in cahoots.
I think the seller is trying to pull a FAST one with prospective buyers. I have participated in a number of eBay auctions in the past, and I am not that stupid. The seller made the statement that the hat is a conductor’s hat. And that is entirely wrong. And from the wording of the description of this engineer’s hat, I don’t think this guy is the sharpest knife in the drawer! He’s not playing with a full deck of cards here.[D)]

Now, actually, it says turn of the century. It doesn’t say which century.[;)]
Sheesh!! I’ve got an authentic “Kromer” engineer cap circa 1970 that I paid about a
buck 2.98 for; anybody out there willing to bid 10 big ones for it?!
That dudes about seven cans shy of a “six-pack” if he thinks he’s going to get that much!!
If you check out the high bidders profile you will see 7 items, 2 of which are negative. Thats not a very good track record.
His reply comments are not very nice either.
I would bet he never pays up and his negitive feedbacks will continue to climb.
Later Bill
Yeah, but he only needs to sell ONE at that price. [:O]
If the speculation above is right and it is a shill bidding thing, the seller is going to have to pay the Ebay commission on the ten grand.
And if you notice, the seller has a feedback rating of 0 (yes that’s a zero) and the buyer has a whopping 3.
The seller got his information from the web… Do a search for “conductor’s hat” and see what you get.
I’ve been looking for a bona fide conductor’s hat to wear when I volunteer (and I’ve found them). Better than half the Google hits come up with a hat such as is shown. If I wanted to take the time, I’d compare some of the sample photos to the one on the auction site. Bet I could find it, too.
Thats is just a plain ole pillowtick cap, worn by just about everyone from labors to hostlers to engineers and freight conductors…several generations ago, this was the equal to todays “gimme” ball cap.
You read the sellers comments, it is a hustle.
Poor disabled Marine who didnt get anything out of his grandfathers will…bo-hoo…the Marines I know wouldnt need to get anything out of a will, and certainly wouldnt use the name of their service to elicite pity.
Ed
I’m in total agreement with you, Ed. If this guy actually was a Marine, he’s a discrace to the entire corps.

Hey… I was going through some of my dad’s old stuff (he died 2 years ago, and I didn’t get anything from his will, either… probably because Mom is still alive…) and I found, not 1 not 2, but 4, yes folks… 4 train engineer hats JUST LIKE THE ONE THAT IS 10,000, except, I am going to be smart, and charge 11,000 for each one… so that way I can make um… let see, carry the one, two zeros, no, that makes eleventy-six… oh, shoot, the heck with it, I’ll MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!!! And then, I can send my dog to obedience school (wait, do I have a dog??) oh well, no matter, if I get a dog, then I can afford to send him to obedience school, and my son can have that “operation” (it;s an attitude-ectomy, to be performed when I can find a surgeon to perform such a difficult operation, especially on teenagers) And, I can put the rest away for a rainy day (Wednesday of this week, I think)… So, any takers?
So, now, I am going to go through my house, and see what else I can find… oh wait, my 5 year old son has 2 of those hats in his toy box… wow!!! What a gold mine…!!! Fido can go to 2 obedience schools now!!! Oh man, I am SAVED!!!
(This post was created using 100% pure SARCASM, I use only 100% pure SARCASM, as I find, it gets the best results, others my use WRY HUMOR, as well as SATIRE, but, as for me, I prefer SARCASM)
So, if I send you the two hats we have, we can spit the profitts 50/50-right?
ps: Send me the name of that guy that does the teenager-ectemy thing. We have one ready now, and two in the horizon.
…I am a disabled marine vet with really bad injuries and maybe you can make my day and buy my dead father’s hat from me for 10,000 dollars. (SOB SOB SOB WHIMPER SOB BAWL)
come on. It’s bad enough that he’s trying to sell a novelty hat but to throw in all the SOB stories to ‘sweeten the deal’?
It’s an “attitude-ectomy”, and I found 2 surgeons that perform the operation, One is Dr. Pil, and the other is Dr. Ow… Someone referred me to Dr. Buster Hymen, but he is in the wrong discipline. Anyway… I have 3 teens, but the oldest 2 do not have this “attitude” issue that the 13 year old has… so surgery is scheduled for next week… apparently, the teen needs to be confined to his room for a few days prior to the surgery, sometimes that helps make the attitude easier to deal with…
Yeah, we can split the profits 50/50… I have no issue with that… I found a pink hat like that in my 4 y/o daughter’s toy box… do you think a pink one might be worth more???
“I never recieved any money in his will. Maybe you are extremely fortunate and could change my life forever by bidding. I will hand deliver the conductor hat myself.I am a good man and a former disabled Marine with extremely bad injuries.”
OK, here’s what someone out on the west coast should do to this Maine-based scammer: create a false eBay identity, bid $15,000 and when you win, tell him you’ll give him the money in cash when he shows up as promised in his description and hands you the hat.
Then give the guy an address for a vacant lot in the desert, agree on a meeting time, get a lawn chair and a cooler of beer, park where you can watch the empty lot and sit there just to see who shows up. Then take pictures of the guy’s surprised look and post them here for all of us to see. THAT would certainly grant his wish of having his life changed forever.
It would be even better if the guy who did this to him was a former jarhead. After all, “turnabout IS fair play.” [(-D]
Heck Tim, you don’t need a sergeon for that. I can fix you up for a fraction of what a sergeon would charge.
