Seeing as this Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and many people will have the day off and the weather is expected to be nice to boot, I was wondering if anyone wanted to get together and talk and view trains here in Chicaoland. I was thinking that it would be good to meet up in a place that was central to most of the folks which is why my first couple of thoughts would be Elmhurst station, LaGrange or Turner Junction. Eola is another very solid location to list as well. For the most part these locations are easily accessible from a nearby expressway, relatively central to those from all over Chicago and are in fairly close proximity to restaurants and other amenities. Rochelle can be considered as an alternate if enough people want to make the trip. Of course each location also offers it’s own unique qualities. Let me know what you think and if you are interested.
I will plan on being at Eola yard (McClure road just south of the main line on the SE corner in the dirt “parking lot” on Friday afternoon after about 1:30 p.m. or so. I will be driving a black Ford Five Hundred.
Heck! I would love to, but I gotta work friday… Seriously, what plumber is his right mind will be working the friday after thanksgiving. I guess that puts the kaibash on any long plans for that weekend…

Well, man since I missed the first get together of some of the forum members, I would most certainly like to try for a second gathering. I’m going to say something that everyone else said I’d love to but, I don’t have enough money to drive, get on Amtrak, or take the bus to get up to Illinois from Louisville, Kentucky. I also have a job interview on Black Friday. I also think I’ll be way too tired after doing all that Thanksgiving cooking to drive up to Illinois for six hours. [:(]
Are Mutt and CW making you do all the cooking at the Diner? No wonder you’re not posting much lately…
I’d love to drop by, but if I do it won’t be Friday. We’ll be up in Northwest Wisconsin then (Cameron, followed by a swing through Eau Claire, maybe?).
Gee, with all the food that is normally consumed on Thanksgiving [dinner], I would think the services of a plumber would be in greater demand on the Friday after…(sorry about the “crappy” joke)[;)]
We can make it Saturday if it works better for others. After Turkey day is done, my plans aren’t set in stone. Are you free on Saturday, Jim? Feel free to post here or email me and let me know. Thanks!
Hope you can make it out Saturday, Jim–I just kinda-sorta cleared it with my wife. We’ll have to eat lunch first, though, which moves things back to about 4:00 at best. Not very long with the daylight.
Good, somebody else agrees with me! Green is a much more festive color as well, considering the purpose for much of that money-spending… Guess we’ll have to work on spreading that one!
Today was a beautiful day to go railfanning. Unfortunately for me, it wasn’t going to happen. My original plans to start working/railfanning in Kenosha were tossed in favor of dropping my wife at the mall while I worked at a nearby store (that was absolutely dead today [:D]), then picking her up and taking her to work. I stopped back home to check the best place to get cheap gas (tank was on E), and a friend showed up… Not that that was an entirely bad thing, but by the time I headed out to get gas, it was already after 16:00 and the light was waning… So I decided I’d put off the rest of my work for tomorrow…
Looks like tomorrow will be nice, and quite possibly Sunday too! Either/both should be awesome to get a little more railfanning in before the snow flies… on Thursday, according to the forecast…
Saturday…I’m hoping I can get out there before dark. I’ll definitely try, and I hope some of my prospective acquaintances will wait around. I’m scheduled to work until 2:30, and won’t be out to Eola much before 4:00.
