Anything at Eddystone?

This building is labeled as the original factory building of Baldwin Locomotive Works. Is the building currently being used for anything?

Does the building date from 1906, when Baldwin moved to Eddystone from Philadelphia?

If it’s not then there sure are a lot of abandoned vehicles in the parking lot.

From driving past it many times a few years ago, my impression was that it was being used by either a commerical/ industrial painting company, and/ or a structural steel fabricating company. Unfortunately, I haven’t been down that way much lately, and when I have it’s been either a strictly ‘eyes-on-the-road-at-all-times’ proposition, or at night whhen not much could be seen anyway. Reviewing the aerial photos on Bing this afternoon, it looks like a heavy-haul trucking or shipping company and its trailers and containers are much in evidence in that yard.

I have no reliable information on the date of that building, though it seems later than 1906 vintage to me. I could more readily believe the 1920’s - 1940’s time frame. There are enough histories of Baldwin out there that the info ought to be someplace . . . . [%-)]

Not sure it is the same building, but Remington Arms used a Baldwin Locomotive building at Eddystone to manufacture the British Pattern 14 rifles and later the US M1917 rifle during WW1. Production on the P14 began in 1915, I believe. and the rifles were marked ERA. M1917 production began on the M1917 began in mid year and rifles were marked U S MODEL of 1917 EDDYSTONE.

The building in the picture is being used by Matrix Services. The main office building is also still standing and is leased to many different companys.

I worked in those building for 13 years with Frank W. Hake who did heavy hauling, rigging and millwrighting. There is a date in the cement floor in the shop of 1912.

Thanks for the reply.

They look like a fairly large company.
