Arc Terminals is based in Texas, yet none of its facilities are in Texas. How quaint.

CN should send a thank you letter to all those American recipients of Obama stuff and re-elected the economically challenged “professor.” Without the push by His Oneness to stop the pipeline, CN would have that much less stuff to move. If the rails get crowded enough with oil, it is possible merchandise might leave the rails and start moving by truck once more. Tracks, like highways, have only so much capacity. With NIMBY gangs stationed in key locations around the country, it will be very difficult for freight railroads to expand capacity, which translates into more profits because more freight has to move with no increase in capacity. Of course, the railroads could do a reverse Mayor Daley on Meigs Field. Lay down panel track thru town in the middle of the night. Then once it is down and a low priority train is using it, find a rail friendly judge, win a court order, and proceed to replace it with something of much higher quality. But don’t expect any substantial increase in demand for freight capacity until well after 2016.
