I recently came across two S-2s for under $50 each and reading some Model Railroader forums on Arnold S-2s being a “Bad” locomotive and it’s rails not fitting Code 80 rails. My question is, would it be worth my money and investment to buy both locomotives because I want two S-2s for my model railroad.
All I know,is that, Arnold is a N-Scale brand, from,Hornby International and they do have a North American market,so based on that,I would say there should not be an issue, with wheel gauge…As far as performance, I can’t answer…I’m sure that there are other’s here on the Forum that can…
The Arnold S2 is rather ‘old’ stock. It had a very nice metal body with good detail. The bad news is that the wheel flanges will trip over the spike heads of code 55 rail, and the ‘spring’ coupling does not allow it to go around very sharp curves. It rungs great on straight code 80 flex track!
Both Atlas and Bachmann have announced Alco S2/S4 models in N scale…
I know both companies have created the S2/S4 months ago. I just thought buying an older version wouldn’t be so much of a hassle. If the older version is the older version is outdated then I will not choose to buy the two S2s that i have originally said I would like to buy.
Yeah I’m getting the “buy the newer model” vibe right now. I’m going to instead buy two undecorated S2s and S4s when the time is right and the prices go down alittle.
