art of model railroading articles

recently obtain some, but not all issues of model railroader from 1944 with the 6 part “The Art of Model Railroading” series by frank ellison. i’m missing the 2nd and 4th parts.

can anyone provide a summary of these (or all) parts to fill in the gaps.

thanks, greg

Frank Ellison’s The Art of Model Railroading is a free PDF-download at this website’s articles section. Also, don’t overlook Frank Ellison’s Realistic Freight Operations (PDF-download) at Kalmbach’s Information Station.

thanks much

Also, these were reprinted August 1964 through January 1965 in their entirety and an abbreviated version in July 1976.

I highly recommend them.

Enjoy

Paul

Definitely worth downloading and reading (refreshing writing style). The DELTA track plan discussed in the article is at the end of the series.

You should look around for his book, “Frank Ellison on Model Railroads”. They pop up on ebay from time to time. It was written in 1955. It’s a great read.

i think i learned more about the goals of layout design from these articles than from “Track Planing for Realistic Operation” by John Armstrong.

i’m surprised that they are not recommended more often.

found an inexpensive ($14) copy on http://www.bookfinder4u.com

thanks, greg

Thanks for that link! I loved that Art series. Love that spagetti bowl track planning, genius.

Greg thanks for the bookfinder link.
