Nick
Nick,
Have you gone to the Great Smokey Mountain Scenic RR yet, over in Bryson City? I’m not sure it they are still running excursion trains (probably not). They run two: One through the Nantahala Gorge; the other, to Dillsborough.
There’s also a nice Lionel/American Flyer RR museum over there next to the depot. They have a ~24 x 48" layout inside that’s fun to watch. I must a jawed for a 1/2 hour with the guy running the layout. It’s worth the $6 - even if you aren’t into O-scale. [:)] Bryson City is on the other side of Cherokee, a little over an hour from Asheville.
Tom
Tom,
It’s funny that this topic came up now. We are going back to Cherokee(second time this
year) over Thanksgiving weekend.
I think I have you beat, I jawed with the guy that was operating the layout for nearly an hour![:)]
I’m not sure if we will have time for an excursion on the GSMR this time, but I never miss
the opportunity to visit the layout and the museum.
Nick,
We also visit Asheville every year. If you look at my profile, the picture is of me on a Climax
loco. This was taken at the Cradle of Forestry just off of the Blue Ridge Pwy in the Pisqah
National Forest. If you get on the Blue Ridge Pwy in Ashville and drive towards Cherokee,
you will see the sign for Brevard near mile marker #411. Get off there and the Cradle of
Forestry is about four miles. They have a lot of logging exhibits including the Climax,
log cars, an old steam skidder and a steam powered saw mill.
It’s a lot of fun and it’s a peaceful walk through the woods.
Good luck, Dave
cool thankls for the info
NIck,
There is a club here in Hendersonville. I believe they are called the Apple Valley Club or something like that. They are located in the old depot just off 7th Avenue. I’m not sure, but, I think they are open at least one weekend a month. I’ve only been over there twice and both times was during the AppleFest.
Hope this helps.
Bienvenidos a Asheville.
Andy
PS The OrangePeel or the Grey Eagle are generally the best clubs (bar type) for good music. Plenty of good eats around town as well.
thanks alot andy will deffinetly have to hit up the bars
