Athearn Body Removal

I recently acquired an Athearn Genesis SD-70, Kit number G6143. I want to install a Digitrax Decoder. The instructions to remove the body states:

“To remove the body from the mechanism, cradle the underframe at the fuel tanks with one hand, grasp the long hood just below the “Q” fan openings with the thumb and forefinger of the other hand, squeeze, then carefully lift and twist the body slightly. The long hood should separate from the walkway. Be careful, as there are wires to the front and rear lights that will still be attached to the mechanism”

Well, I squeezed, twisted, and stopped just short of seeing if a hard impact to the wall would remove the body. This thing would not budge. You have be be really careful not to intefere with the hand rails. Anyone have any ideas how to get the body off?

I just did one saturday I know what you mean, the body is actually two pieces the walkway seperates from the body be real careful of the handrails. If you grab the sides of the body and hold the fuel tanks and pull/wiggle it should unsnap.I also had to remove the couplers hope this helps.

I also did a couple over the weekend it seems that the paint between the body and the walkway acted like a glue. Once you can “snap” that joint mine came right apart. Watch those steps from the walkway up into the cab…I was two for two on having to glue them back on.
