I was thinking on buying a athearn Bombardier coach and I don’t what to wast my money on a car that will not fit on my ho scale layout . So I would like to know if any one knows how tall and how long the Bombardier coach is ? Thanks in advance
This might help a little if no one has answered yet.
A friend of mine showed me a Bombardier coach/cab car he had just purchased a while back. It “appeared” to be the same length as my Walthers Budd coaches, which would be a scale 85 feet.
If you are talking about the Bombardier commuter coaches, then here are the dimensions for mine:
Length: 30cm over the diaphragms;
Height: 5.5cm from top of rail;
Width: 3.4cm
I have the Bombardier coaches. Length and height are only one issue. Connected to length are issues with ability to handle curves and S-curves and the Cab car has a very low dam that can cause issues in transitions in elevation, particularly on curves. I have made them work on my layout, but it is not ideal.
If you do plan to use them, like any 85 foot car, make sure your curve radii is large, that you don’t have S-curves without a straight section in between and that you test any elevation transitions.
Test the cars being pushed in reverse.
The curves shouldn’t be any sharper than 22"radius. I have tried them 18’ radius curves and they have derailed.
