Athearn Genesis F3A/A Monon with DCC and Sound

Athearn finally released it long ago announced F3A/A Monon with DCC and sound.

It is the passenger version in red and gray, numbered #83A and #83B.

It comes with a factory installed SoundTraxx Tsunami dual-mode DC/DCC decoder with onboard sound and directional constant lighting.

It is equipped with McHenry scale knuckles, but I am going to replace them with Kadees.

Here is a photo of the consist.

Currently, it is pulling an IHC five passenger car consist in matching red and gray.

Now if I can only talk Rapido into making a red and gray passenger car consist.

Great looking Units!!!

Rich, I hate to ask. But how much they cost! [sigh] I have 6 Monon engines and like to add to the fleet.

Ken

Ken,

I paid $321.99 at MB Klein. That seemed to be the best price around. The MSRP is $459.98.

The DC version (DCC Ready, no sound) is $216.99 at MB Klein. The MSRP is $309.98.

Rich

Hi Cudaken, I preordered Monon F3 AA passenger set ATHG22618 with DCC/Sound for $299.99 from Wholesale Trains (WST, Lantz Hobby Shop)over a year ago. Just received them. Fedex shipping was $20.95 for total of $320.94. They look, run, and sound great! WST no longer has this set on its web site but they have other DC and DCC Monon F3s at slightly increased prices from original preorder prices. If anybody feels like buying two sets of those locos and sending the extra set to me, I’d let them…

Jim

Jim, do you want DC or DCC? [(-D]

Rich

Rich,

Those are some mighty fine additions to your fleet. Here’s a photo of your prototype units.

John,

Thanks for posting that prototype photo. Looks like Athearn got it right.

Rich

They sure did. If you have not checked out

www.rrpicturearchives.net

take a look at the MONON. They have a few good F unit photos and some interesting information as well. One picture is even from Dearborn Station.

Good luck on the units

John

Oh, Rich, you flirt. Teasing me with that siren’s song, it’s just not right. [}:)]

OK, Jim, here is the deal as I see it.

If I feel like buying two more sets of these Monon locos and sending the extra set to you, unless you tell me whether you want DC or DCC, I simply don’t know whether to pick up two more DCC sets or one DCC set and one DC set. [;)]

Monon Rich

Rich, no infernal DCC demon will ever darken my doorstep!
