Athearn Genesis FP45s

Hello, all!

First post, here we go-

I had aquick question about sound in the Genesis FP45s-I just got a Milwaukee unit, and was wondering any way to determine sound maker WITHOUT running the unit?

Thanks

Read the description on the box. It should tell you which sound decoder is installed, if it really has one.

If not on the box, check the documentation inside the box.

As a last resort, contact Athearn and ask them.

If I recall correctly it is a Soundtraxx Tsunami decoder.

I know they used MRC then Soundtraxx-but I’m not sure about mine.

I can’t read the box-there are no good pics

I forgot to mention it’s on ebay-I purchased it am am just curious

Thanks

Isn’t there a model number on the box that you could just look up on-line?

I believe there were only two sound processors put into those units from the factory. The older ones would have a MRC decoder and the new ones will have a Tsunami.

If it is ATHG67632, ATHG67631, ATHG67630, or ATHG67629 it is from the 2008 run.
If it is ATHG67615, ATHG67614, or ATHG67613 it is from the 2007 run.

I cannot find any model numbers painted for Milwaukee from any of the newer runs 2009 - 2010 which would have the Tsunami decoders in them. All units announce after April 27th, 2009 came with the Tsunami.

Another way to tell is that the MRC sound decoders came with a hokey remote control unit for them. Does yours have one of these?

Yet another indicator might be the color of the box. The older units with MCR decoders generally came in mostly yellow w/blue boxes. The newer units come in dark blue boxes with gold lettering.
