Athearn Shell/Chassis Question

Would either (or both) a GP35 or GP40 Athearn shell fit on an Athearn GP38 chassis? If not, would any modifications to the shell have to be made for them to fit? All are Athearn blue box products.

Thanks,
Brian

I would guess not the GP35, since they are from the older oversized hood era. I would think the others would work, but I can’t give a definite answer.

Oh yeah, forgot. GP35s are not as big as the other two, so probably not.

The GP38-2 and GP40-2 underframes are interchangeable. As a matter of a fact, if you want to model an SP GP38-2 with a prototypical size fuel tank, you need to do this. Odd that one Athearn SP GP38-2 I bought came with the GP40-2 underframe while the other came with a standard GP38-2 underframe.

The NEWER RTR GP38-2s are coming with the correct fuel tank for a given road…Sadly some of the older RTR GP38-2s come with the short tank…You can tell the older RTR GP38-2s from the newer runs…The newer ones has factory installed metal grab irons…[:D] I am not sure about the BB GP38-2 kits. [?]
