Athearn to offer SoundTraxx Tsunami DCC equipped locomotives

iam waiting to see the prices of these engines

I first heard the Tsunami steam decoders after purchasing three Bachmann steam locomotives. I thought they sounded great. Not long after, I picked up two of the Bowser/Stewart C-628 locos with Soundtraxx Tsunami sound and I was blown away!! The diesel sounds are dead on and the best I’ve heard yet. Well done Athearn, I don’t think you know how huge this step forward really is!! A great product made even better, thank you.

Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders are great! Have been installing them for almost 2 years now, and not one problem.

I have a sound equipped 80-ton shay (tsunami sound) by bachmann, the back EMF helps alot on shays/climax. Way to go Athearn for picking the best decoder ever to install in your fleet!!!

I agree with Robert can’t wait to see the prices.

I have just installed my first Soundtraxx Tsunami into an Athearn SD70 - It just works - first time - and it sounds great!
It makes you wonder why Athearn is changing its sound decoder supplier??
If you knew the problems I have with my Athearn sound MP15-AC, then that maybe why - I now buy Athearn without sound because of the above.
I hope the two companies work well together.

As an owner of a big boy all I can say bout time the electrics match the detail. MRC decoders are in my opinion not that flash. The torque compensation is not paticularly go and the chuff sync is marginal at best at crawling speeds. The money you spend on Genesis locomotive I would expect better. So I think wise decision on Athearns behalf

This new sound system is great beats some of the others hands down

I first heard Athearn’s Sountraxx decoder at my local train shop a couple of weeks ago on a new diesel. It’s tough to get clear sound out of such a small package and I thought the sound was the best I have heard in N scale. Well done, Athearn!

I’ve replaced the MRC sound decoders in my Athearn Big-Boys, Challengers and FEF’s. Any future Athearn Genesis purchases will be sans sound and I’ll put in a SoundTraxx decoder. I enjoy being able to program each type of loco to it’s protype characteristics…whistle, chuff rate, load comp, etc. MRC is way behind the curve. Thanks SoundTraxx. Keep up the good work.

I have an Athearns 2-8-2 Mikado that has dcc, I installed the soundtraxx medium steam into it and it the best sound I heard yet for them, all the guys at my local club agree, I only wish Athearns had done it sooner!

i want to add the soundtraxx tsunami decoder and sound. which system works best with the soundtraxx system? is it digitrax, MRC, lenz, dynamis or what. I know the soundtraxx decoders are best and i am changing over to D.C.C. I would like an expert opinion as to which system works best with the soundtraxx tsunami.

thank you

I am very disappointed in the factory installation of the MRC decoder in my n scale Athern Challenger. There were bare wires in the tender which caused a short and blew the decoder along with the front light. Because it is out of warrenty, they will not stand behind their product even though it was a factory defect which caused the problem. This is a second generation Challenger.

I am temporarily installing a DZ123 Digitrax decoder and I am having trouble with the front light. I thought all I had to do was add a resistor and I would be in good shape. I was wrong. They appearently have the front light 1/2 waved needing only the white wire hooked up to make it work. I have found that I am unable to control the light. One decoder malfunctioned with the light on constant, after installing a known good decoder, the light is still on constant with no on/off control. Can anyone shed some light on this subject?
