Hello all,
The shell on my Atheran F7 #1650 has a crack in it from kissing the floor thanks to my cat running across the layout.
I contacted Atheran and the told me that they don’t have replacemet shells and that I should contact Highliner to see if I could get one from them.
Searche around the new and Goole but can’t seem to find a home page or address and phone number for them.
Any people out on the list who might have such informaion, if you could forward it on it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Sorry that was an F7A unit.
You can buy a new F7A shell from Horizon Hobbies… The part number is #30230 for a shell with a double-headlight, or #30390 with a single headlight. These are undecorated shells though, so you will have to paint them up yourself.
hope this helps.
? If #1650 is an Athearn they’re tons of them USED. If it’s the 50 year new Genesis F-7A with the Highliner shell, that’s another matter.
-
Highliner has no painted shells.
-
Athearn (the Importer) has no separate GENESIS shells - only complete RTR units.
-
A custom painted shell will cost you more - than a new RTR.
I would suggest a used Athearn A unit, or the InterMountain pre-painted A shell. If you are upgrading a 50 year old F-7.
LASTLY, Get rid of the d*mn cat. They think model trains are mice. Mine knocked an ABA set of Hobbytown PA’s custom painted in SantaFe War bonnet onto the floor.
Thanks Don,
Yes, it’s a Gensis F7A.
Tons? Where would be the best place to see find these?
Now about that cat, he has no place to go! No one wants him because he has FIV and a shelter will put him to sleep…hohumm. I’m putting a little door alarm on the door to scare him away should he try this again. My wife says an electric shock is better!
Your wife is right. The cat will ignore the alarm after a few times. It can’t ignore an electric shock.
The old ‘Globe’‘Athearn’ shell will look too shabby alongside the Genesis. The Intermoutain Shell won’t - if painted in the road you want.
(If your Genesis F-7A is in ATSF, I would get either the Genesis set to match paint, or the InterMountain F-3 shell, which is different, but close And withe original 'War bonnet, scheme). http://www.imrcmodels.com/ho/html/49105.htm
Your wife is right. Small mouse traps also work.
