Atlas and pre-orders?

Hi all,

This is the first time I’ve pre-ordered any sort of model railroad product, and I’m talking about the Atlas N scale shay. I’m wondering how good Atlas is when it comes to filling pre-orders? I only ask because the production/shipment date for this model has slipped from December to February.

Thanks in advance,

tbdanny

Atlas is usually spot on with it’s delivery dates. I’ve even had a few pre-orders show up early. However, for some reason, everything scheduled to be released in December was pushed back until February or March.

Just last week I finally received my HO scale Atlas Master Alco C420 in Apache Railway livery that I pre-ordered about six months ago when they first announced it.

Atlas is not the only company that is turning to pre-orders to determine how many models they should build. Several years ago Bachmann announced plans and began taking pre-orders for a G-scale steam engine. They apparently didn’t get enough pre-orders so they scrapped plans to build that particular model.

As long as a company doesn’t ask for too much of a down payment up front, I can live with pre-orders, and have done so several times over the past few years.

Even now, I have a down payment made on an Intermountain model, because I have enough confidence in them to know that they will come through and deliver it, eventually.

Atlas, too, is a very trustworthy company in most instances.
