Atlas FP 7 Vintage, Parts

I am looking for a set of side frames for an Atlas FP7, made in Austria over 20 years ago. I was hoping someone would have an old parts bin and just happen to have a set of them. Right! When elephants fly!! Worth a try. Atlas sent me a set of them, but they were too, new and the gear arrangement was wrong.

Best to try E-Bay or a swap meet. The older it is,the harder to find and much of the newer equipment is all ready for DCC and soundeffects, even in “N” scale!A few hobby shops around here carry used brass models, but would a newer drivetrain fit on the same body? Personally,I want to get into DCC after seeing the club layouts at the shows.I have been trying for years to do a rotary beacon on an “N” scale GTW GP-38 for years-they used them during the steam to diesel transition and they looked so cool at the grade crossings. Also used cabooses with lanterns on side as late as 1978.Most of my older equipment(Con-cor and Bachman)barely run at all after 25 years, whereas all of my Atlas and Kato engines run like champs.Just waiting for the kids to move out.My son already fears for his bedroom. He graduates next year.I thought those were actually made by Rivarossi in the 1970’s?When Kato introduced micro gearing in 1985(the Atlas N scale RS-3)it made a world of difference.

Roco made Atlas’s FP7, and used the same sideframes on the old Atlas GP40 and GP38 too. They made these same 3 models for different companies (like Con-Cor and E-R Models) for about 30 years, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find them somewhere.

Are you around North Carolina,i might can help you.

Have you tried contacting Atlas? They do sell parts. Her is the web link for FP7 parts:

He said he contacted Atlas & they sent parts that were too new with different dimensions. I know the model is over 20 yrs. old & probably made in Austria as I have one. Really wouldn’t expect Atlas to stock these. Best bet is buying a dead one at a swap meet or train show.

I just looked at Roco’s website, and they still make the FP7 dummy. It looks like it uses the same trucks, so they probably just removed the gears to make it a dummy.

If Atlas doesn’t have the parts, you can try contacting Roco. http://www.roco.com/
