i just bought 2 of the new atlas c420 with qsi sound, they sound pretty good, just not much info on the decoders, i have one i have to reset and the manual says look at the manual for the wand, of course theres no manual for the wand in either box, so i dont know where to put the wand on the loco to reset it to defaults, volume adjust works but where do i put it to reset? I also see no advanced cvs for this thing, wondering what manual online! The book says titan or tian e anyone have any info on this loco or decoder? Thanks much!
I have three of the original run C420s. The manual is online. It’s not the Titan, though. It’s for the Quantum 5.1, IIRC. QSI should have the older manuals available online, if that’s what’s required. These later runs may have been upgraded to the Titan, so maybe that is what you need.
For the wand reset location on mine, on top of the hood there is a large hatch (6’x6’) behind the cab. At the back of that hatch is the reset location. Hold the wand at a right angle to the tracls (perpendicular) and apply 10 volts DC power. The loco should speak “Reset” when done. This info was supplied in a separate 4 page sheet that was included with the short version manual in my boxes.
If you have a DCC system that can read the value in CV7, that will tell you what version of QSI decoder you have. Then you can find the appropriate manual on the QSI web site.
Thanks for the repies, ill have to try it again, this is a brand new loco from atlast that just came out, they mention looking at the photos in the wand manual and neither box has any additional manuals regarding this and of course QSI neither, seems like very poor planning nline as far as support and the manuals go for QSI and Atlas.
Every DCC loco I’ve ever purchased always has some information packaged in the box giving some information about the installed decoder. There is usually some sort of quick start guide.
Are you saying that there was absolutely no paperwork enclosed in the boxes?
I suggest that you call Atlas customer service and ask them your questions.
When you call Atlas, make sure that you ask them if these instructions apply to your engines, especially if you think there might have been a decoder change.
No, there was manual inside the box as well as parts list , including the decoder manual, it said titan decoder, in the manual they referance another manual regarding the wand that comes with the loco and decoder, there is suppose to be pictures and info that show you how to use the wand, thats the book that is missing.
understanding how the wand works was not the problem, locating the switch on he loco was an issue, i found it for volume , but where is it for reset, ill have to check through all that again.
