I’ve got a couple on the way but am contemplating ordering one more. Did anyone received the ones you ordered yet? If so how are they?

MB Klien shows theirs are in stock in various roads… and of course at their fabulous prices.

Hi… I just received all 4 of mine today and they are as nice as I had expected. 3 SP and 1 SSW … I don’t know what roads you’re getting but you’ll be pleased.

BTW, John…You’d better JUMP if you’re planning on getting anyomore- Atlas has been oversold on these for months and they are selling out on reservations very quickly.

Yeah, Lately the industry has been skimpy on quality 4 axle loco’s. Time for them to pick it up some. I just hope the recent thread about noisy Atlas loco’s isn’t true going forward. It would be a shame to see one of my favorites go by the wayside.
Thanks for the info everyone! Today I received the four that I ordered, 2 SP, 1 SSW, and a NS for my son. All four look great and I gave each a quick test on my bench test track and they ran smoothly and quiet as can be. They didn’t run anything like the “coffee grinder” sounding Athearn SD40T-2s that I also received today, I may do a review on those later! The GP40-2s look to be selling out fast. I may get one more while they are still available. What decoders is are you all planning on using in them?
John
My two NS Gold units came in yesterday. I haven’t had time to put them on the layout yet. I did notice that Walthers has them all sold out so it looks like Atlas built enough to fill the preorders and not many more.
Hi… I got mine a few days ago and just now had some time to load photos -here are some links to pics I have of the SP versions… enjoy:

They are nice. I ended up with five for myself, three SP and two SSW. I also got a couple of NS for the layout I’m building for my son.

I’m using the Tsunami TSU1000 and will be modifiying the internal frame(read remove) to make room for a larger bass reflex speaker, as I do in all of my sound installs.
The open radiator grills will be perfect for speaker location and with a resonense baffle, these should sound really awsome.
I’ve never cared for the QSI stuff - they have the same synthesized sound files they used way back in the G scale decoders. to me, they just don’t measure up to todays digital sound recordings…even the Revolution series sound doesn’t really cut it…but, that is just my opinion.
If you want to really get a excellent comparision of what sounds best, you can do it right on your computer if it has speakers…here’s a URL for Ulrich Hobbies, which specialize in sound and decoders: http://www.ulrichmodels.biz/servlet/StoreFront
There, you can go to 'sound’s samples’ tab, at the top of the DCC & Sound page, and listen to each manufacturers decoder .wav sound files - side by side - and decide for yourself what you like the best.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I don’t think I’m going to put sound in mine. I was thinking about using a TCS DP5X in these for the time being at least but I don’t have any experience with them and very little DCC experience at all for that matter. That decoder looks like it would fit well in most of the newer Atlas models. Have any of you tried it?

Hi John… yep… the TCS function decoders are probably the best - that’s what I’d recommend. I haven’t had any preoblems so far, with installing them in terms of space or interference with other components.
You should be fine.
Good luck,
Rick
Rick, I’m just starting to use JMRI and I looked on there and don’t see the TCS DP5X listed there. Have you tried to program one using their software?
John
I just ordered Pan An Railway #350 with QSI sound. I see a Pan Am in Northampton MA every so often.
Now to make the two car business car set of the dark blue Pan AM Railway cars that match the locos.

No…I haven’t had the need to program those on DecoderPro. There is( I think) a new version of DecoderPro out…I’d go to Digitraxx’s website and scroll down the the JMRI link and see if you find any other links or mention of the newer firmware/software.
What exactly are you tryingto program on the DP5X?
Rick
Well, I do not know if Pan Am Railway #350 GP40 is phase II but I ordered one from Train World yesterday and it arrived about 5pm today. QSI sound is good but a little loud. Will have to do some fine tuning. Lots of documentation. This is my first Atlas loco. Quite nice. Might have to order #352. I see Pan Am Locos quite a lot were I live.
Rich
I’ve got a couple of DP5Xs here but haven’t installed either one yet. I was wanting to use JMRI to program some speed settings, do speed matching between other locos, program some lighting effects, etc. I’ve used it on a couple of digitrax decoders I’ve installed so far and it seems to make it very quick and easy to do programming. I imagine JMRI will include it in their new version.
