Atlas HO scale GP39-2 diesel locomotive
The Reading’s GP39-2’s went to the Delaware & Hudson when Conrail was formed in 1976; the D&H numbered them in its 7400 series and ran many of them in Reading green with different versions of minimal restenciling for quite some time. The GP39-2’s that the D&H got new, also in 1976, were numbered in the 7600 series and painted in the blue, gray and yellow “lightning stripe” livery.
It was a shame that the GP-39’s only lasted a couple of short years on the RDG. They were found in all types of service, ranging from single unit locals, to multi-unit lashups up to 6 units hauling iron ore on the Bethlehem branch. The D&H received 20 mechanically excellent locomotives.
would like to see in old BN green and black in low 2700 series
How did the UP acquire their units? ex-Kennecott Copper?
I would like to know if you have left room for sound in this unit without completely cut away the weight.
Thanks
Ron Keith
I haven’t seen to many of the gp39-2 in the coal fields.Seen alot of them in the early 90’s.Does anyone know if csx is using them as slug units.
Boy does this bring back memories. My Grandfather worked for the S.P. lines and he was the engineer of a GP39-2. I remember as a child sitting on his lap as we drove the GP39-2 in the yard in Los Angeles, CA. Those were the days. I would love to own a HO scale of the SP GP39-2 that Grandpa used to operate.
