Just got my new atlas rs 1 with cruse control and it works great.
Just to be curious I took off the short hood to see what makes it tick.
The flywheel that the code reader reads off of now has beautiful black strips painted on the flywheel and the space inbetween the stripes is natural brass .
No more paper tape to get mess up. The flywheel is quite close to the smoke unit so if any residue gets on the it there should be no problem with tape releasing.
Thought you people would like to hear some good things from a mft.
Also I put the engine on the track and it worked perfect. Three cheers for atlas.

Dave, thanks for that report. I was looking at an Atlas engine on EBay just the other night and decided to pass because I had not read a post that even mentioned anything about the electronic guts on one of their engines.
After you have ran the engine for some period of time, would you please post a brief evaluation of its performance and your likes and dislikes.
It has ran every day for the last week and is still running great. I have lashed it up with my earlier Minneapolis and St Louis RS 1 and that required turning the cruise off as the early ones did not have it and it matched speed perfect with the Louie and the lashup worked perfect.
It just creeps in the cruise mode by itself in the 128 mode which would make it great in the yards as a switcher, but I am going to run it with the loiue. The new one is C&NW and I can remember them going through town when I was on my way to Kindergarton.
They always had the motive power mixed up and most of the allcos went to the louie as the C&NW owned them then. Middle 50’s. That train is sort of a neat memory of my youth with both a father and grandfather working on the CMO.
