Well, getting In touch with ATLAS was a waste of time Talked with Steve, who responded “Don’t you know those parts are over 30 years old We don’t have them!” So, now my question is: Does anyone have any ATLAS parts for the ATLAS/KATO GP40? I need 3 Geared Axel/Wheel sets, 3 male double “t” drive shafts and 2 left side front railings. E-Mail to me at WERMAJ911, if so. All part Numbers are in the 700 series, and are shown on the GP38/Gp40 parts diagram. Thanks, again. JWH

RETGM,

That sucks!! I had a feeling that was going to happen…I’ll try a little later and see if I can come up with something. I will get back to you,one way or the other…

Cheers,

Frank

JWH,

After doing a wide search of many suppliers of Atlas parts…The only thing I can suggest is,Northwest Short Line,NSWL,406-375-7555,If they can’t help,I’m lost,I did look up the parts that you need and they do have them,no railings though…

Hope That Helps,

Cheers,

Frank

have you tried ebay

Uh, wait, didn’t you say the units were 30 years old? I happen to have a couple of those old units, (not willing to part with them) but the point is, how can you expect a small company like Atlas to have parts that old still in stock and available? Try buying new, 30 year old car parts from a company like Ford. Good luck.

The Atlas units I have are still running, but they don’t get “out much anymore” because I have much newer and smoother units running in their place. I don’t feel it is fair to expect Atlas (or other companies) to always come up with old parts. You pretty much have to do what I do, watch for someone who might be scrapping old units and have the parts I need, or just keep looking.

Good luck with your search.

Actually PastorBob, the local muscle car freaks at the gym I go to say ordering factory-made Chevrolet body panels for late 1960’s cars is actually possible. I think the trick is finding a dealer willing to help you get the correct part numbers for whatever Chevy part it is you require. Chrysler fans are out of luck though–no original MOPAR panels for them–lol.

Back to trains:

I was conditioned by Overland Models not to expect future parts availability, and I certainly don’t expect parts for Athearn or BLI or anybody else’s plastic diesels, not anymore. I figure by the time I wear out most locomotives, I’m ready to put them on the shelf and replace them anyway.

Athearn clearly states in their Genesis Big Boy instructions that parts will be kept in inventory for the duration of the (1 year) warranty period, but after the warranty period there is no guarantee that parts will be available at all.

There it is–clearly and plainly stated–after it’s been out for one year, don’t expect to get parts.

In the model world, 30 years is an eternity, and there’s simply too many million different parts out there.

John

There is such a thing called after market parts,Mac’s is one of the,I bought a front right fender, rear quarter panel for my 49 Ford, with no problem, also a brand new ignition for my 54…Many source’s out there for most anything…

Cheers,

Frank

Not 30 year old toys that were run in small numbers in the first place. It is weird to see people posting that atlas should keep parts in stock for something made in the Reagan administration

I would also recommend EBay. With time and patience you will probably secure the needed parts, even if it means buying an Atlas Geep or two to canabalized the needed parts from.

Happy modeling!

Don.

The parts that the OP is seeking are out there, just not by Atlas, dogbones and geared axles,no railings for that year…NWSL has what he needs…

Frank

Thanks, guys…even the potshots were polite, this time. I appreciate all input. especially the helpful, on topic ones. Will try all but eBay, since I’ve gone down that road, already. Thanks, again. JWH
