Hi there. I just got a package of stuff through eBay and in it are 3 boxes of Atlas #82 Pier Girders (4 to a box). I can’t quite figure out what exactly they are for…bridge decks? Side girders for a bridge? HELP!
I think what you have are the girders that connect between piers.
Here is a link to the Atlas website showing their graduated piers with a girder acting as bridge decking between the piers.
Hope this is what you wanted to know.
Darrell, quiet…for now
Yes, they are 9-inch sections designed to sit on top of the Atlas piers. They are just barely wider that a section of track. I used a half-dozen of them where my yard crosses over a gorge, but I just sat them on the upper-level foam rather than a pier.
They look OK with a bit of rusting and weathering. Out of the box, they look like ironwork with rivets, made of black plastic. I bought a package of 4 from my LHS to go with the 2 I had from my old layout in the 1960’s. I couldn’t tell the difference between the old and new ones. A set of 4 is only a few dollars MSRP, by the way. Even if you got a set for free on Ebay, it would cost more than that to ship it.
Aha! Thanks guys! I don’t know what I’ll use them for but at least now I’ll be able to sleep at night [:)]
