I just purchased by second GP 38-2 by Atlas Trainman. Granted these are somewhat scaled down models (no pun intended) but even though the schematic shows lamps, there is no light when it is being run. Is part of the scaled down model and do I need to install one or is this another issue? Anyone have an idea? Also, these are a bear to get the shell off - any ideas on that one??
The lights should be there and working. Might have to check if they got unhooked in transit or something. They are regular 14v bulbs (on the 5 I maintain), if they need replacing.
To get the shell off, remove the couplers and the coupler boxes, and the shell should just lift off.
Are you running on DC or DCC?? Sometimes on DC it takes a lot of power before the headlights show on some engines. If DCC the lead light should go on when you press F1…unless you plugged the decoder in backwards, then the lights wouldn’t go on.
Not sure about Trainman, but most Atlas diesels have the frame, steps, etc. as part of the chassis. You disconnect the handrails from the cab and lift the cab - body assembly off the frame / chassis.
The only thing different on the Trainman models is the shell all internals and frame are the same as other Atlas models. the shell is one piece and it will comes off once the couplers are removed.
