Last year I bought a NS Atlas Trainman set to start a layout one day for my son and myself. I was wondering if anyone else has one of these sets and what they think of it. I purchased it for $99.95 and felt like that was a pretty good deal. Also is this a good starter set for a beginner. Thanks
I don’t have that particular set, but I do have several Trainman locomotives. In my opinion they are good for the money. They have fewer detail, but they have the same motor and drive train as the higher end Atlas locomotives so you can’t go wrong there.
I have that EXACT set. It is by far one of the best train sets you can get. This is indeed a good set for a beginner. It is easy to set up and take down, and the freight cars and locomotives have amazing quality for the price. All I can say is be gentile on the track, as the rails fall off after a good drop.
I got a CSX set last for Chrimstmas from my wife/Santa and it is what got my ball rolling in MRR. Now the loco is one of 7 locos in the fleet and my rolling stock has increased from 4 or 5 cars that it comes with to 60 cars and the length of track has gone from that small 3 by 5 or 6 foot circle to taking over my the garage. $99 for a set that provides a good foundation for MRR is well worth it. The loco is easily upgraded to DCC, the powerpack can be used to power turnout switches and lights if you upgrade to a DCC unit.
