I am thinking of changing my Atlas switches to Peco, but am unsure of the length of the Peco switch…Atlas switches currently used are 9" in length. All switches( turnouts are unpowered) are operated manually.I am currently wired with a block system on DC and have no plans to go DCC…Any input would br appreciated…Michael
What scale? HO or N? In HO scale, Atlas and Peco turnouts are not the same length; Peco are shorter, so you’ll have to add a short section of track to the Peco. I have no experience with anything N scale.
I am a HO scale modeller. How much shorter are the Peco switches and what are the differences between the various type of switches Peco offers. I have used their curved Setrack switch with my Atlas track and it works fine
An Atlas HO Code 83 #6 turnout is 9 inches long and a Peco is 8.25 inches long, or 3/4 inch shorter than the Atlas. Code 100 should be the same lengths. I use both Peco Insulfrog and Electrofrog turnouts. I prefer the Insulfrog but when I ordered mine there was a mixup and half of them were Electrofrog.
Thanks for your comments…Which type of switch works best without having to do any wiring if you are going to use a manual type of switch…Thanks
Atlas, tne newer “DCC Friendly” Walthers/Shinohara, or Peco turnouts require no additiional wiring unless you want to have a siding insulated so you can park locomotives on it and turn the power off.
