ATSF Warbonnet (red and silver) SD or GP hood units

anyone have any pictures of any?

I know they existed, but there seems to be zero photos on railpictures

P.S. I mean the old warbonnet before blue-yellow

thanks

There should be plenty of pics of either the GP60Ms or GP60Bs - I don’t think there was ever a standard-cab hood unit painted in the Warbonnet, though I could be wrong.

Go here http://www.qstation.org/atsf/wrbnnt.html
for what is supposed to be a complete list, with pictures, like these (note that not all thier links work):

I visited that link, but couldn’t find any there

here is where I got the idea:

wildrails,

You need to put the time period of 1965-1975 in the post subject line.

Most people thought you were talking about the 1990-1995 period of Santa Fe when the Warbonnet returned in Silver and Red.

Andrew

Yes, those were the only ones, GE U28CGs painted that way for service on the Grand Canyon and other secondary passenger trains.

Well, the link I put up covers all the WB’s, just that some of the photo links do not work, sorry.

Lionel made an O Scale version of the Santa Fe U28C Diesel-Electric Locomoitive in that Warbonnet Scheme about 3 to 5 years. www.lionel.com has an illustration of this Santa Fe Diesel Loco in the on-line CATALOG VOLUME 1 2002.

Then they spun off of that idea to paint the traditional O Gauge GP38 and GP20 in the Silver & Red Warbonnet Scheme.

Life-Like also took that step of painting many of the 1950’s and 1960’s era narrow-long hood diesel-electric locomtives in the Silver & Red Warbonnet scheme. even though they did not have them. It was mostly the full cowl units

The 1990’s was the first fleet application of the Silver & Red on narrow long-hood Locomotives.

Yes look up my web site then the S. California galleries then Barstow & you will see one.

The FP45s were also painted that way in the 1960s.
