Bachman Drive Clicking

Does any know where and what the clicking in the drive is. I have gotten out some of my older TOYS they all still run but several have the clicking in the drive, taken the drive apart can’t find anything wrong no broken gears no worn out axle holders, don’t know does anyone. Believe I should stick with my Katie and atlas

I think you might have a kink in your engine’s drive wheels…

That, or your motor has issues.

Try removing the motor from the drive and push the chassis with the wheels down the track to see if its still making the noise.

Thanks it’s only the f 3s I’ll try that any see what happens.

Charles, took 4 different ones apart no busted gears, all axles and pins are smooth gears fit fairly tight, oiled them with synthetic oil, checked armature for flatness everything was smooth. Put it back together clicks louder now than it did before ,just my luck but engines have been fully serviced now, hopefully they’ll last awhile longer now .

Have you tried running them with the shell off?You might actually be able to see what is clicking.

Yeah, took shells of of 3 found, the clicking on all of them is coming from the front axle on the rear truck. Thought wheels was dragging frame but there not 'bout to pull hair out can’t figure it out. Changed axles and gears around and still clicks checked for flashing melted spots but nothing is there.

How old are these units?quite awhile back there was a problem with the larger truck gears actually hitting the inside of the truck housing.the cure was to cut out the offending area of the truck and making a cover from thin styrene and gluing it on the outside of the truck.

I don’t know if this is your problem but the gear hit the truck housing created a loud clicking noise.

They are early to mid 80s I even have a few f7s they are doing it as well. Took motor apart couldn’t find anything out of sorts. The gears are clearing all the way around,go figure huh? Thanks I’ll keep searching if and when I find the problem I’ll post and maybe it will help someone else that’s having the same problems. But please keep suggestion and thoughts on the matter coming

I have a Bachmann baby trainmaster that was/is doing this – it is the drive shaft on mine. I ran the loco with the shell off and adjusted the shaft by shifting it back and foth a little bit at a time and the clicking went away for awhile, but soon came back (shifts out of place again?). Try adjusting the drive shaft to see if that is the problem on yours too.

Hello Chuck, unfortunately mine is the rear wheel drive locos motor and gears are enclosed in the truck more or less toys but put time into them with details and hate to mothball them but if I can’t figure this one out then the mothball box they will go. Thanks for your suggestion
