The 2-wire connector #2 from my Bachmann/Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation broke off. Local hobby stores & one mail order source all said “contact Bachmann” for a replacement. Bachmann doesn’t respond to e-mail service questions. After two weeks of waiting for a service reply, I telephoned Bachmann and will receive a new harness ($10 + $5 p&h).
Does anyone know of any substitutes for the Bachmann connectors (1 and 2) from loco to tender? Sources? Dohickies?
Yes, replace them with a 2-pin “Deans Connector”. If you local hobby shop has any radio control airplanes - ask those guys. That’s where these connectors are typically used. I picked up a supply of 3-pin ones at the trains how the other week for $1.60 each (contains the male and female parts for $1.60). I use those for lighting when installing DCC decoders in those locos where the lights are in the shell and not part of the chassis - 3 wires, for forward lght, reverse light, and function common. With the plug and socket the shell can be completely removed for servicing. I believe they make 2 and 4 pin versions of these connectors as well as the 3-pin ones I have. They are small enough to work in HO.
Slightly larger and many times LESS expensive.
I picked up 10 sets of the 3-pin Dean’s connectors for about a buck each. The Miniatronic 3-pin connector lists for $9.95 for ONE set.
