Bachmann GP 7 or 9 "brush" and spring replacements

I was going to decode a Bachmann HO scale GP 7 or 9 but as I started to solder the motor, one of the “brushes” that makes electrical contact and a spring inside the motor flew out and I cannot find them. Is there any retailer online I can buy replacement parts or am I simply out of luck?

Thanks.

Check the Bachmann web page under parts/service. http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/index.php

I found out the hard way that you shouldn’t solder the brush caps while still installed in the motor.

That part of the motor housing is usually plastic and the soldering iron will melt the area adjacent to the brush cap.

You can carefully remove the brush cap and solder the decoder wire to it, then re-assemble it.

If you’re able to get the parts you need, they may not seat properly in the motor.

I hope you’re able to get it back together, I’ve been through the experience in N scale. You think HO brushes are hard to find?

As mentioned, if you melted it too bad, you may have to replace the motor. That too would be available from Bachman service. Do you have the part # diagram that came with it?
