I have always wanted to have a car of this type on my layout. Was quite surprise to see someone actually mass producing one.
I do have a few questions though. Wondering if anyone has one, & how they like it
Also, can the load be removed & the two end sections be connected together to be used in the “empty” mode?
From photos I have seen, it appears that when the load is removed both end sections have “pins” at the top & would not allow a means of connection
One of our club member brought his Schnabel car to the layout and we tried to run it around the layout. With the load the overhange is tremendous and the car would not clear such lineside items such as trees and signals and would not go through any tunnel that was on a curve no matter how large the radius and that everything fit within the NMRA clearance gauge. We did have a little more success when we ran it without the load the overhange on the inside of the curve was not at large but it would still not clear the tunnel portals.
The load is just pinned it with those pins and the pins can be placed in without the load in place. But with the way it is designed we were not sure how many times that can be done.
