Light bulb (LED?). It makes a white-blueish color.
I removed the light bulb/LED, but I can’t remember where the which wires go into the socket. I know where which socked the wires are suppose to go.
You can see that I removed the old grab irons, and begun the process of refitting them with .010" wire. Removed the window glazing and I am going to modify the front window frames. I was bored reading for geography class, just in case any of you guys were wondering why there is a book there [:p]
The lights are LEDs. In the wiring picture, the positive wire goes where the board says “LED3+.” The negative wire goes in the other spot. Bachmann did put a + where the positive wire goes.[:D]
Looks like it’s got the same motor and drive system that my new Spectrum DASH 8 has, which means it probably runs very well.[:D]
In the first picture at the top left you see the small green board with solder joints on top and it is sitting on black posts. That is the DC plug. to make this loco DCC just remove the small plug and install the decoder in that spot. That’s how easy it is to change it to DCC. [:D]
One of my LHS can get these at a pretty good price, and after looking at the pics here above, it looks like an easy one to add Ditch Light LEDS and the like to it to make it a nicer Loco.
If you are going to add ditch lights, there is a problem there. The walkway around the SD45 and the front and back where the coupler are, is made out of die cast metal. Unless you have a drill bit that can be used on metal, then no problem there!
Glad to see someone else has discovered this locomotive. I posted a review over a month ago which was met with great skepticism and negative remarks. Of course a few pictures does help to persuade the doubters. It took about 2 minutes to install the decoder on mine and it runs very smoothly. I am still debating whether to put a cannon & co high nose on it and if I do whether to make it a Southern unit or Norfolk & Western.
I’ll have to look up your review on this. I think I’d like to add one of these for my little Engineer to use.
I went to my new LHS last night and scored a nice Atlas SD35 Silver Series with Decoder for $59.99 which I thought was a great deal! I’ve been thinking of adding SOUND with either a Tsunami unit or some other unit. Not sure yet. I bought it to kind of kit bash around but it’s a NICE running engine. Goes along nicely with the R&S GP-40’s I have also. Might have to try my first Re-paint on this one too!
