Bachmann Spectrum parts

If I wanted to try and repair some Bachmann spectrum locos myself, what is a good website to go to for parts?. other than the Bachmann site. I went there and its hard to find just what you want without sending in a request. Ive boxed one of them up, im thinking on sending one of them in with the $20.00 for repair. Is there anyone on this forum that does repairs on Locos? or even do tuneups on Loco?[sigh]

The best thing to do is send Bachmann a request for parts or service. Another alternative is to send a message to “The Bach Man” on their site describing your problem. Simple things can often be corrected by just knowing how to approach them. Nothing like getting advice from the “horse’s mouth”.

The few times I have had to deal with Bachmann my inquiries have been answered within a day.

If you are having problems with a Spectrum locomotive, I’m sure they will jump right on it.

Good luck!

I belong to the Bachmann forum and I seriously doubt you will get any parts. People just send back in their defective loco for another one. I know you would like to believe otherwise and so do many other people. That is Bachmann’s way.

It is a different story with the new Roundhouse steamers I can buy just about any parts.

For whatever reason, Bachmann has chosen to not offer repair parts for Spectrum products. Their policy seems to be, send it to them and they will repair or replace it.

A rare exception I encountered was with a Spectrum G-scale Shay locomotive that someone damaged when I wasn’t watching. The exploded diagram showed the damaged part as being a separate item with it’s own part number, but when I contacted Bachmann I was told that the entire Shay motor assembly had to be purchased at a cost of $75 because the damaged part, which should have cost no more than $1, was not available separately.

Or I could send it to them at a shipping cost of more than $40 due to its weight, and they would repair it. And then I’d have to pick up the tab for return shipping.

I have never had a problem getting parts from Bachmann under warranty or just detail parts to use on other engines. You will get best results if you call them and be nice. Make a list of parts you want from the sheets with each engine and they will get back to you with price and availability.

I needed a LED for a new engine that came burnt out and they sent me a complete new board with both LED’s. I needed a truck gear cover for a new engine and they sent a new truck complete with wheels. I have also received new motors under warranty and all these things at no charge. Even free shipping.

I am very pleased with the service they provide and have always been happy. I will keep purchasing more engines. N scale and HO scale. I have 50+ Bachamnn engines and only once sent one back.

Just to highjack this post a little.[oX)]

I have a Bachmann Spectrum Russian Decapod - it’s undecorated. I model the Seaboard Air Line and the leading (pilot) trucks on my model are incorrect for the Seaboard Decapods. This model is equipt with the spoke style wheel while the Seaboard 2-10-0’s were disc types.

I was interested in this post because I thought that I may be able to buy replacements, but on reading here that this is not always possible buying direct from Bachmann I ws wondering if there are any other possible sourses where wheels of this type can be bought?

I have searched Walthers and I will have a crack at Bachmann, but if there is somebody on this forum who has eany leeds for me to follow up then I would be extremely grateful.[:)]

One might try NorthWest Shortline for pilot wheels.

A mind blowing variety at NWSL, Boiler-Man - thank you.

On the Bachmann site, I filled out a customer service request form asking to be supplied with the part I need; that was yesterday. Today, I received an e-mail from Bachmann saying that my request had been past on to thier parts person for processing. I was asked to be patient because it can take a little time at this time of the year for processing and that they will get this to me as quickly as possible.

So there you go. I’ll be interested to see what developes.
