I got some pretty steep grades, nothing my Road, Road switchers, and Switchers cant handle, BUT, some of the one axle engine guys cant make.
Now, anyone have any clues as to how I can get my Doodlebug up these grades? Its a 4 axle engine, front two axeles are powered. Back to are pickups, (thank god for that)!
Not to be unkind, but…GOOD LUCK!! My LL Heritage 0-6-0 is a reasonably hefty loco for its size, and it will get two small ore hoppers, with about three ounces of modeled coal in each, up my 3.6% grade. Your little guy will be hard pressed to get itself up that grade.
You could run a helper for that doodlebug. =)
Best advice I can give would be to lubricate the rear truck bearings - I know from looking at mine that there’s nowhere to add extra ballast (bodywork is full of diecast frame and it’s very heavy as standard). If you can make the rear wheelsets as free-rolling as possible it will help with the problem, if it still won’t make it up the grade you may have to rethink passenger service!
I like the “Working on the rear trucks idea” let me look into it a bit more!
Maybe add a scale sander or install rocket booster!!! Is this the same doodlebug as an earlier post that cloned from Walthers to Bachmann???
No, I brought it back to my LHS, They tried to open it and it broke, They sold me a Bachman instead! It was a decent exchange. I love my LHS!!
