Bad weather on the KR&M RR

Wow had a major natural disaster yesterday on the KR&M railroad. Seems the house outside hot and cold soft water faucet corroded through thanks to the salt from the softener. I had spotted white markings on the layout and got to looking around to find the cause and what a mess. The thing was dripping down onto the tracks and had them rusted to the point nothing could run around on the outside main line. So, I had to send the MOW guys out to do repairs. They cut the lines, installed Shark Bite shut off valves and cleaned up the track to get it running again. This could have been real bad had it blew the weep hole open when I was not around. Talk about luck! Still more cleanup to do but the trains are running again and will have to do till I can get the guys to replace that 35" section of track. Or I could say the salt markings on the layout is snow that has not melted yet.

A lot of the salt fits right in with the landscaping. Looks very natural. Call it an “exposed vein” of a salt deposit and put white tail deer all over the place!

Wow, Who knew that model railroading could be as demanding as the real thing. I second Penny’s suggestions.

First welcome back KRM, second that could have been a lot worse, but still bad enough, I to like Penny’s idea of a salt vein. that could work out nice.

If you leave the salt there, spray it with a lacquer or enamel clear coat to seal it so that it doesn’t endanger the track anymore. It looks good, but it’s sitting there waiting for moisture or even high humidity to migrate.

Well, I ordered a Topside Creeper today to help with the repairs. I have been looking at them for some time, but this gave me the reason to pull the trigger. I ordered a lower one because of the lower height of the train table. VEVOR Automotive Top Creeper, Engine Creeper 42.5"-64.8", 400 LBS Capacity High Top Creeper, 4 Swivel Caster Wheels, Padded Deck, Foldable Creeper. Cost $140 + tax not to bad, I got it from the MFG website. Better price than Amazon or E-Bay. I will let you know what I think when I get it.

Got the over-the-top creeper built today, Now I can start to repair the damage to the train layout from the water leak. Should work? May not be the most comfortable thing to use. But better than nothing.

WOW that’s pretty neat , mite not be that comfortable but still batter then the alternative.

Looks VERY practical and not bad at all for $140.

I’ve already bookmarked this for future reference when I get to the scenery point of my layout. That creeper looks so handy!

I have often considered a creeper but never acted on it. I would have some use for it in one hard to reach area of my layout.

I’m going to ask Santa Clause for one of those!

Rain and snow day = layout repair. Went well and could not of done it as easy without the new over-the-top creeper. Came out just fine.

Wow! “PON” (Pride Of Newark for those not in the know) beer cars! These are the only ones I’ve seen besides my own! How 'bout that?
Great repair job too, it looks like that new creeper’s earned it’s keep already!

Sorry just got to see the video love love the layout great work .KRM

Yes Flintlock, I love those PON cars, I have 19 RMT cars, a Beep and Bang motive power in all and can’t say a bad thing about them. I got most of mine around 2013. They made nice stuff for the money. :+1:

I met Walt Matuch of RMT at the York show last October. A very nice man and I had a fine conversation with him. I asked if the “Beeps” were ever coming back but he was pretty non-committal about it which I took as a “Not anytime soon!” reply. So there may not be any more “Beeps” for a while but the rolling stock is still coming. I bought the Henning’s 85th Anniversary car while there, nice piece! I’m looking forward to the battleship New Jersey car.
