Isn’t it great to have politicians in charge?

One of the many problems BART has had for a long time is that the powers that run it have been more concerned about making their system bigger than in keeping it running. Bart management and the governing body that runs it would rather spend money on extending lines than on maintaining the system that they have.

The SF Bay Area has grown despite a lack of land for development. Unfortunately too many corporate owned buildings are still paying at a 1970 era tax rate despite real increases in value. While the residents have to see a change their property tax rates at least every generation.
This adversely effects the amount of money available for transit development from local property taxes and frequently makes property taxes unavailable for transit. The legacy of proposition 13.
