Best Decoder for Bachmann N-scale 4-8-4 J

Howdy,

I am just about to purchase an N&W J N-scale bachmann (the new version) and wanted to know what would be a good decoder for it. I have a Super Chief Digitrax System which I will be purchasing at the same time.

Digitrax Dz123?

The Digitrax dz123 if you’re price sensitive, the dz143 if you want all the bells and whistles (for possible future upgrades like sound and stuff). You could also go with a Lenz Gold.

The Digitrax DZ123 is definately small enough to fit. I installed one in a HO Bachmann 44 ton switcher. It is a hard wire type installation.

If the 4-8-4 J is DCC friendly it will have either an eight pin plug or a light board designed for a hard wire decoder. The 44 toner had the board.
