Perusing a classic MR magazine(Feb.1997) I see a full page ad for an UP 4-8-8-4, WOW! great photo, lots of “stuff” on the engine, then I see gauge 1:32, and only 75 were made, THEN, I saw the price, remember this was in 1997, the price was $11,250.00 yikes! ! Who out there actually bought one, c’mon, 'fess up, someone must have bought one, is this the price for brass 1:32 scale locomotives? I really must get out more often.
1:32 is G scale, and this must have been a live steam model at that price.
Nope, it is electric, (dual pittman motors 12vdc) and they refer to it as Gauge 1. and it is 4 feet, 2 inches in length.
Speaking of live steam: check out this video of a steamup in Portland, OR:

IIRC, that same year a brass AC-12 Cab-Forward was released in the same scale. Price was only a mere ten thousand, though. Evidently that one more wheel on a 4-8-8-4 was worth a thousand more than a 4-8-8-2.
Who’da thunk, LOL?
