billboard ideas in scrapbooking section at Hobby Lobby

While my wife and I were perusing in Hobby Lobby I came across an idea for building signage. In the scrapbooking section I came across Coke dimentional stickers that look like good canidates for 3-d billboards There were several sets thatcover most eras from the 30’s to the 60’s. Each one has at least a couple of excellent candidates for full size billboards as well as other signs. (as a bonus it looks like H.L. is expanding their train section again, but they were just starting when I was in ours in Muncie last week)

I have not noticed the scrap book thing but they are expanding there train section in Lawton. They have a goon supply on scenery foam and ground cover and the such. Here recently they have a rack of WS figures, I have bought several the past few weeks. Mike

I haven’t been to my local (25 miles from here!) Hobby Lobby in about a month, but th last time I was there it seemed as though they were going to expand the MRRing section. That particular section was never large, all it ever had was a bunch of WS 9 ounce shaker bottles, a few small starter sets, vehicles, track, and a few books. Anyways, I hope they go through with the expansion because I can’t keep driving all the way to Nashville to visit my favorite LHS’s or paying outrageous prices for shipping on the Internet.

If you looks at the many refrigerator magnets offered for sale on eBay, you’ll commonly find replicas of popular ads from the 1920’s forward concerning all manner of widely recognized products. Most of these margnets are the perfect size for creating HO period billboards and are relatively inexpensive. I’ve used a number of them around the layout.

A lot of these fridge magnets are mady by the same companies that make the tin signs. I manage a hardware store that carries a sideline of the tin signs, we sell tons of them and when they update their catalogs, I get the old ones and use them for billboards too. Desperate enterprises and Kool collectibles are two companies that make these.

PS> I used to work for Hobby Lobby when they only had a few stores and a lot larger hobby section. we used to have 2 aisles of trains. It seems like it goes in cycles.

Thanks for the tip drgwcs!
I’ll check the one on the north side of Ft Wayne next time I’m in town, I live over by Grabill.
I have found some neat packages of different sizes of " craft sticks" at Walmart that can be used to frame up a billboard. I think Hobby Lobby has them too.Now all I need is the billboard siggn stuff you’re talking about.

Hobby Lobby here used to have a great selection of kit buildings, had sales on them that were only a small fraction of the price of LHS.
Okay, here’s a question for you" REAL SCROUNGERS" out there!
Where can I get some "BUMPY CHANILLE for making trees?
I have searched ALL of FT WAYNE over and so far NO ONE but NO ONE has the stuiff, and some materials and craft shops ask or say “never heard of it” , yet I’ll read it about it in MR magazines and books and the guys doing the articles on tress , etc, talk about it like it’s on every shelf in every craft store everywhere!
NOT IN FT WAYNE INDIANA!!!
