Hello all !..after waiting for over 1 yr for this product to finally show up on hobby shop shelf…I had to buy one.! Any way…here’s my 2 cents worth…I love the sound and the performance of this engine so far…the actual datail and paint seem a little off…of couse buying one sound equipped diesel engine was not enough…so i bought a PROTO 200 GP -9 aslo…which is performing very nicely also…So now i have to wait for ATLAS to show up with their promised DASH 8 which they are advertizing…anyway…i hope to get sound in all my engines eventually . My question is? although the proto is running good, ive had problems with them in past ( I run DCC )…the over counter price is considerable and I want to spend my $ wisely…any and all comments are welcome…Tom
As I understand it, the problems with Proto equipment were with their early GPs and BL2s - cracked axle gears seem to have been a problem? I’ve not had any trouble with my three P1k locos (Erie-Built and a pair of C-Liners), in fact they’re first on the list to be “chipped” when I go DCC in February. I would say the Proto range seems to be a safe buy, especially as they seem to have an excellent after-sales service that (from what I’ve heard) will even provide replacement parts for free in some cases. Hope this is of some use!
