This car is an ACF build, not an FMC like his model, but still representative of cars painted in a similar time frame. The BN 249xxx-250xxx range was several sub-groups of secondhand ex-Railbox cars, with groups of cars from several different builders (ACF, FMC, PC&F, Berwick)

I remember back in the March 1998 Model Railroader they had an article about painting some of those former Railbox cars for a few different Railroads in S scale but a lot of the techniques and info apply to HO and other scales as well.
