But given the pass these vandals apparently receive for wide open and unchallenged access to the rails…I wouldn’t be surprised if drones are the catalyst for a new wave of photographer harassment.

The requirement for drone operators to have a private pilot’s license is stupid, since these things are already being flown by many people who couldn’t begin to qualify for a license to fly anything. The railroad is putting an unnecessary burden on itself. Any working railroader already knows what the penalties are for making mistakes or goofing off on company time. Fly one of those things over the wrong place and not only might it get shot down, but there WILL be lawsuits to contend with. I’m sure the railroads will make sure that only well trained people will be operating drones for any reason. After all, there will be a video record…
