I’ve seen BNSF Intermodal run thru NS Norris yard at Birmingham,Al can any one tell me where this train goes?
I’ve also seen BNSF units on NS tracks. They were pulling coal to a power plant near my home in northwest Georgia.

thanks for your reply trainan223 ! I’ve was told by a fan sunday that the train may go to Atlanta or Jacksonville, Fla. BNSF has Thomas yard here in Birmingham thru the take over the FRISCO in1980. It would be safe to say that the coal trains come from the powder river basin. The power plants in AL and Ga. are probably owned by Southern Company.
These intermodal trains may come from the KCS at Meridian, MS as one of the following train symbols (KCS): I-CLAT, I-SBAT, I-NCAT. These are BNSF pig trains with rights over KCS and NS. Of course, KCS will soon become part of the BNSF!

Trainman223, are you telling me that there are pumpkins in Krannert? I remember the first time I saw Omaha orange in Georgia. It was at a crossing east of Adairsville, on 140, on the K&A, CSX line. The BNSF now runs all Powder River coal to Georgia Power Plant Scherer, as recorded on http://www.railpictures.net NS734 . There is on photo taken from the Old Calhoun Rd bridge, in Rome, showing one of the last UP set up’s. There are pumpkin units on CSX trains in NJ also.
If it’s intermodal running northeast through B’ham, it’s going to Atlanta.
I have seen BNSF units here in Columbus on occasion, also UP. Also TFM. I guess that means that NS is short on motive power and is leasing from other railroads.

I was just currently railfaning the NS Pittsburg Line for three days and I saw 8 BNSF pumpkin units and a Santa Fe in the Yellow and Blue paint.
Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of BNSF and UPs on the NS lines here in Meridian, MS. But the point about KCS being bought out by BNSF is not possible. I believe they are doing well on their own. Plus my uncle works for KCS as an engineer for years. I can tell you their are doing fine! Interesting concept though.
I’d say from looking on the internet and on RR Yahoo Groups the Harrrisburg, Reading, adn Lehigh Lines there are as many BNSF’s as UP’s, of course I’ve only seen 5 BNSF’s all year compared to the countless UP SD70M’s (BNSF happens to be my favorite Class 1, UP is last).
I railfan the NS Lehigh Line. Ive seen some UP’s and BNSF’s.
When foriegn power makes it to the Lehigh Line its usually on the 211, 212, 213, or 214, one thing bad about the Pittsburgh Line is that very few units can lead (only ex Conrail units and the newer C40-9W’s and SD70M’s) because of cab signals, since most of the trains on the Harrisburg, Reading, and Lehigh Lines also head on the Pttsburgh Line there is not much of a chance of seeing foriegn power trailing (much less leading) in PA.
Mike: When I was in Altoona earlier this month I saw a DRGW SD40T-2 (one of two or three that are unpatched!!!), UP SD40-2, BNSF H1 C44-9W, BNSF H2 C44-9W, and a CSX SD50, all were from Amtrak so I couldn’t get shots of any of them exept for the CSX SD50 ( Isaw it from the train AND while railfanning).
Like on a BNSF track here in becker sometimes i will see a train being lead by a NS engine or CP rail engine even sometimes do they get permission from BNSF to run there engines down there tracks or is BNSF using the engine for rent or what? Or if you see like BNSF train leading with CP rail engines as the 2nd or 3rd engine etc.

There is a picture on “railpictures.com” of a BNSF loco pulling through my hometown of Morristown, TN. When I was a kid, it was Southern, later NS. What is a pumpkin doing in east TN? Is this a common practice? What about UP, or other roads?
