Don’t forget about the lift bridge CP installed in 2005 at La Crosse, WI between French Island and La Crosse. CP replaced the vintage 1900s swing span with a lift bridge. This bridge is over the Black River which at this location is the water outlet is from Lake Onalaska which was created by the lock and dam built during the Great Depression.
Not a very good pciture of the bridge. Just what is the point of posting any old BNSF locomotive picture? It should be relevant to the article. Jourdnalism 101 maybe? Come on folks - get with it.
You know…
Only 300 openings per month is not a lot of river traffic. 10 per day.
Considering that this is the Mississippi River that is a pathetic level of business for those barge guys.
Hair-splitting, but the Wabash Railroad’s drawbridge at Hannibal was a swing span. NS replaced with a lift bridge brought up from down South.
