Can someone explain this whole shebang about BNSF now being referred to as “BNSF Railway”? Also, whats this with the heritages? Is the new logo h3 or h4, or did h3 become h2? I need to know, as this is an irritating change that happened abruptly!! Thanks
Well there is current an H2 but the BNSF over a sudden came up with new Logo called the H3 like just over night. The new H3 is to mark the 10th year of the BN ATSF Merger.
The Railroad is now going through much bigger changes. Hope this helps. Allan.
BNSF painted H3 on the wide cabs and H4 on the standard cabs.H3 is like H2,just with the new logo and H4 is like H1 with the new logo…the only thing that changed on the engine was the logo.BNSF also started painting the dark green section to black.
I like the new logo and I wouldn’t doubt that there is a merger in the near future…to NS maybe???
Black and orange paint on locomotives works well for the Milwaukee or Bessemer & Lake Eire, but the Omaha Orange and green with silver trucks and fuel tanks complete with Santa Fe-style logo is far better than the latest twist in BNSF’s image. Must be nice to have lots of money to spend on new paint and logos! [:p]
So does the swoosh and “speed lettering” mean that BNSF’s bought stock in Nike and an NFL team???
As far as the swoosh is concerned, UPS is also using a version of it in its recently updated logo and they pulled it off pretty nicely. Speed lettering can be found just about everywhere you look, including more than a few trucking firms. Rio Grande also used a variation of speed lettering since the steam era.
The colors could be a bit better but orange and black as the main colors is a good starting point.
I sure am glad BNSF is trying to erase its history as BN and ATSF.The old name was a little too long to say and obviously they don’t want a completely new name so they just shortened their old name…BNSF Railway…definetly better.
I’m not sure the government regulators would allow a BNSF-NS or BNSF-CSX (same w/ up) to keep prices (somewhat) low.
Although it might be interesting…the BNSFNSRR, oorr BurlingtonNorthernSantaFeNorfolkSouthern, or if they had gotton their way with the CN…BNSFCN, oorr, BurlingtonNorthernSantaFeCanadianNational.
Don’t be suprised if after the next merger they come up with an entirely new name. I heard that if the BNSF / CN merger would have gone through they would become the “North American Railroad”.
The whole Burlington Northern Santa Fe switch to “BNSF Railway” could have been avoided at the start if the company had just went with “Santa Fe Northern.” [;)] [:D]
The day that “Burlington” is finally erased from this railroad–meaning the “B” in BNSF will be a sad day for railroading history.
At a time where UP is painting new locomotives in a sort of retro-scheme, Canadian Pacific Railway came back from CP Rail, and Norfolk Southern isn’t afraid to harken back to its past, it’s sad that BNSF feel the need to ditch the proud history of ATSF and the Hill Roads.
I can only hope that barring some megamerger, a future marketing regime will bring back the old name and old logo like CPR did.
I agree. For once BNSF should follow UP’s [;)] lead and keep (or convert) loco’s to heritage design and coloring, all five constituent lines (CB&Q + NP + GN = BN + AT&SF).
