If Mr. Mica wants to brag about saving us taxpayers money, he should stop wasting it on these “hearing”.
Yawn.
NARP listed at goodsearch.com .
Mica’s a GOP hack who’s “investigations” are part of ongoing campaign by his party that is as old as the NRPC itself to abolish Amtrak on purely ideological grounds. Facts such as currently unprecedented ridership figures mean nothing nor does the pressing need for a variety of transportation modalities in this country. The be-wigged, lame-duck Mr. Mica will not be dissuaded from holding hearings even though the new Congress takes over in January, as the article points out. Talk about wasteful government spending!
I’m waiting for Guse’s negative comments about Amtrak.
No “new planning schematics” done over and over has given AMTRAK the badly needed new engines and passenger cars. You can’t ride what isn’t funded. Most Empire Builder riders probably believe that BNSF engines on the head end are normal engines for AMTRAK. (I guess they are these days.)
i enjoy amtrak hamburgers and have never gotten indigestion.

welcome aboard greyhound mr mica
Representative Schuster’s absence is curious. For a smooth transition between his and Representative Mica’s chairmanships you might think it would be helpful for him to attend this meeting. Unless, or course, his own agenda is different than Chairman Mica’s.

Mr. Tallman: The Passenger column about Rep. Mica’s August hearing on food in the November 2012 issue of Trains explains why a company in the transportation business serving food can’t be compared with a restaurant (what restaurant would make diners pay, say $100–as Amtrak does for a ticket–before any food is ordered, then only count the food tab as revenue measured against food costs?). Frankly, it amazes me how “without guile” Boardman has been at all these hearings. He has bragged, but has refrained from jabs or combativeness.
Thank you Bob Johnston for continuing your completely biased reporting. Only Mica was combative. Only Mica got in jabs. Only Mica brags. This is pure rhetoric and not reporting.
Boardmen clearly got in his points, and tooted his horn, and went to bat for what he wants, but he’s pure and w/o guile??? Why don’t you report on the substantive. Like why/how the hamburger is subsidized? Nobody’s fooled Bob.
Good riddance to that toad John Mica. I hope Bill Shuster doens’t fall in Mica’s shoe prints
Not only did Mica save us taxpayers money by not eating that hamburger, he also saved himself from indigestion!
I hope that Bill Shuster wont be as anti-rail as Mica was.
