Body of missing Amtrak passenger found three years after disappearance

The California Zephyr originates from Emeryville, CA, not Oakland

At least the family has closure. Prayers lifted for all.

Much still to be learned about this situation - but how could a dead body lie next to a desert ROW for three years without being noticed? I suspect it’s not as simple as it seems.

There is enough large sagebrush in that area to hide a body quite effectively. For his body to be in that area it is almost certain he managed to depart the train in motion - likely 50 MPH or more - and a large shrub or cluster of shrubs would quite nicely both stop the motion of the body and hide it from view.

It is within the realm of possibility that the body could have been moved by say a bear or wolve to where it was discovered. As Reid wrote, where the ballast ends and the brush begins can hide a lot of things. As Lockman wrote things are not always as simple as it seems. Bottom line is, closure is a good thing.

All of your thoughts and comments on this article are very much within the realm of possibilities, especially with this area being somewhat mountainous and over 5600 ft. in elevation.

Closure is a good thing !! Even though it may be the only conclusion in this case, we can all send out our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends for their loss !!

Time to bring Joe Kenda out of retirement.
