bowser 70 ton hopper

I have a cn kit from bowser and I don’t know what the sortof half roundparts are for that are glued on the ends of the car? I tried the prototypical thread but no luck.rambo1…

If they look like part 283 on the following link,

http://hoseeker.org/stewart/stewart70tonhoppercar2004.jpg,

they are extensions to the car ends. This will give you what is known as a “peaked end” car. I don’t know the exact purpose, but if I had to guess it allowed more coal to be loaded without overflowing the car end. I don’t know if any of the prototype CN cars actually had this. I seem to think it was more of a C&O thing, but there were probably more prototype roads that incorporated that design.

maxman you got it 283 I think you have the right idea it must be for extra coal loading .rambo1…

I found out they were called heap shields used for extra loads.rambo1…

Thanks a “heap” for that info [8-|]
